2022 off to a great start

Maribyrnong Sports Academy welcomes all students and staff back for what promises to be a massive 2022 school year.

While most of us were enjoying a little time off during the Summer break, some of our students and coaches were busy performing out on the ovals, courts and stadiums of Melbourne playing the sport they love and doing a great job.

We congratulate the following students on their achievements over the last 6 weeks

Year 11 Basketball student Lucas Impey for making the U18 Victorian Country state team.  MSA Head Basketball coach Brenton O’Brien says “this is an amazing effort by Lucus who comes into the team as a bottom age player.  He has worked hard to get here and we wish him all the best”.

Year 10 Students Andy Land and Lachlan Schumann as well as Year 11 student Declan Spears were selected for the Victorian Baseball Showcase held at the Melbourne Ballpark.  The Showcase allows the best 40 kids in the State to play games against each other and replaces the National U16 and U18 championships which were cancelled due to covid.

Our tennis players got the job done with year 12 student Brian Capalnean winning his first professional men’s title.  While Year 11 student Alex Kim also won a men’s event.

Year 10 student Bridget Mihulka played her first pro event and won a match. She also made 2 x singles semi-finals and 2 x doubles titles at the ITF in Singapore. Charlotte McGrath won an open Women’s Event

The Victorian State Teams for Netball were announced this week and MSA has great representation once again.

Montaya Sardi & Charlotte Morey (Year 11) both made the 17/U state team.

Akira McCormack Made the top 25 for 19/U (final round of selections but did not make the final squad of 12)

Congratulations to all and good luck for the rest of the year.
