Former MSA Student Athlete and 2018 Commonwealth Games Hurdler Celeste Mucci has broken the 13 second barrier in the 100m hurdles event for the second time in her career, to win the NSW championships at Sydney’s Olympic Park over the weekend.

The run re-ignited a fantastic rivalry with NSW defending champion Abby Taddeo, who ran second in the final, with a margin of .02 of a second the final gap between the two.  The win took Celeste’s record over Abby to a 10-9 advantage from the 19 times they have raced against each other.

Celeste spoke to the Athletics NSW live stream after the race and was emphatic about her goal over the weekend “ A sub 13 run is what I came up here to do. Super happy with that”

Taddeo started off the stronger of the two with Celeste catching and passing her by the 4th hurdle.  Taddeo though just would give in. “ Yeah I could feel Abby next to me.  She’s a great starter and stuck with me.  (It) Definitely helped though”.

When quizzed on the camaraderie between the nations hurdlers at the moment Celeste praised the group. “ Yeah we have a great group of girls now,  we are definitely going to see some fast times which helps.  They are all so lovely, I love running against them.”

Celeste will next run be either the Queensland State Championships or the Sydney Track Classic in two weeks’ time.

Celeste is aiming to qualify for the Australian Track team to run at Birmingham for the 2022 Commonwealth Games starting on July the 28th.
