MSA Performances WE 03/04/22

Once again MSA had a whole heap of former students performing here at home and around the world.  Let’s have a look at the results.

SSV Premier League Football

Congratulations to our Girls Football team here at Maribyrnong College for winning the SSV Premier League Title last Thursday with a 3-0 victory over SEDA.

A-League

Dylan Murnane started for the Newcastle Jets in their loss to Brisbane.  He received a yellow card during the game and was substituted off at the 35th minute.

 

Matt Bozinovski came on for Wellington Phoenix in their loss to the Melbourne City who had Connor Metcalfe who also came off the bench for City.

 

AFLW – Preliminary Finals

Libby Birch will play in the AFLW Grand Final in Adelaide next week after her Melbourne Demons defeated Brisbane in the Preliminary final played at the MCG.  Melbourne won the game by 4 points.

 

Athletics  - Australian Track and Field Nationals at Sydney’s Olympic Park

Celeste Mucci came 2nd in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 12.96.  This time is the 6th fastest Australian time ever in the event.

Abigail Thomas finished 3rd in the 3000m steeple and ran a world u20 championships qualifying time.

Jessie Andrews finished 7th in the final of the 100m and was a semi-finalist in the 200m

Aliyah Canepa finished 6th in the hammerthrow

Cameron Searle made the Semi-finals of the 400m while Janae Mackrell ran in the heats of the 1500m. 

 

AFL – Round 3

 Jordan Boyd made his debut for the Carlton Football Club and played a solid game in their 1 point victory over the Hawks. Jordan collected 11 touches and a tackle while just missing a goal on debut.

 

Peter Wright kicked 4.1 in Essendon’s loss to Joel Smith’s Melbourne.  Joel had 11 touches and 2 tackles for the Demons.

 

Zak Butters had 13 touches in Port Adelaide’s loss after the siren to the Adelaide Crows.

 

Touk Miller collected 17 possessions while Rory Atkins had 11 possessions for the Suns in Gold Coast’s disappointing loss to the GWS Giants.

 

Kaye Turner had 10 Possessions in North Melbourne’s loss to Cam Rainier’s Brisbane.  Cam had 16 touches kicking 3 behinds.

 

Luke Ryan had 20 possessions in Fremantle’s mauling of a covid depleted West Coast Eagles.

Taekwondo – National Championships in Brisbane

Leon Sejrenovic won gold winning his first fight by TKO and his second fight winning 24 - 21 against another National Team athlete. Meanewhile Fred Pace won a Silver Medal at the National Championships, winning two fights and losing his final to a strong player.

 

Super W

Kiara Ratu came on for the Melbourne Rebels in the 68th min in their loss to Queensland.

 

Badminton

Gronya Somerville and her partner Kaitlyn EA were knocked out in the first round of the Orleans Masters in Paris last Week.

 

We also wish Jacob Schuller and Gronya all the best at this week’s Australian Badminton Nationals in Bendigo.
