2022 Victorian School Sport Awards

It was another big year for Maribyrnong Sports Academy at the 29th Annual Victorian School Sports Awards held at the MCG.

 

Each Year the “Sporting Blues” recognise students, teachers, parents and carers, and Volunteers in Victorian Government Schools who have excelled at, or made an outstanding contribution to school sport.

 

This year MSA students collected 12 awards.  Congratulations to the following:

 

Gospel Ropeti: Gospel was nominated by his Primary school, Melton Primary, after becoming a duel State champion in Athletics in both shot put and discus.

 

Joshua Djatschenko:  Received the High School Athletics award (Male).  He was the Victorian all schools State Champion in the 100m and 200m in 2022.  Josuha also plays football in the WRFL and was named 2022 Junior Interleague Best player in the U14A division.

 

Sukhnoor Rangi:  Received the High School Athletics award (Female).  Sukhnoor won the 2022 National Pole Vault title, rewarding her skill and dedication to pole vaulting.  She also finished 6th at the largest indoor Track and Field event in the USA, The Simplot Games.

 

Jayden Kim: Received the High School Baseball Award.  Jayden had an amazing year in 2022 playing for Victoria in the U16 Nationals before being selected in the U18 Australian team for the World Cup.  He was also the youngest player invited to compete in the MLB World Select team.

 

Ruby Gibson: Received the High School Cricket Award.  After outstanding performances for her club Essendon Maribyrnong Park CC and in Cricket Victoria’s Youth Premier league, Ruby was one of 21 players selected Cricket Victoria’s U16 Female Emerging player program.  She also made her First XI Premier Cricket debut.

 

Alana Cortellino: Received the High School Football (Soccer) award for female students.  Alana represented Australia in the Asian Football Federations U18’s Championships with Australia winning the tournament.  The Junior Matilda is currently training with the Melbourne Victory as apart of their A-League Senior pathway program.

 

Seabil Leong: Received the High School Golf Award.  Seabil achieved great success in 2022 as the School Sport Victoria State Junior Golf Champion and the winner of the Victorian Junior Amateur Championships.  She is currently placed 3rd in the Golf Australia Order of Merit.

 

Ellie Jarratt: Received the High School Hockey Award.  Ellie represented Victoria in the U18 National Hockey Championships and still had time to complete her VCE in 2022.  Ellie has been selected to play for New Hockey club Melbourne Development Squad.

 

Charlotte Morey: Received the award for Netball.  Charlotte has been a part of MSA since arriving in Year 7.  Fast Forward 6 years and Charlotte is an exceptional athlete.  She was selected into Netball Australia’s U17 team.  She is also a part of the VIS’s Vixens Academy.

 

Charlize Buna:  Received the award for Swimming (Female). Charlize is respected by the MSA Swimming community including her peers and Coaches.  Charlize competed in the Australian Swimming Championships and finished Top 10 in all 3 events while also making the Victorian Short and Long course team.

 

Charlotte Vanstone McGrath:  Received the award for Tennis.  Charlotte won the 2022 Victorian State Claycourt Championships and qualified for the 18 and under Australian Championships where she is one of the youngest of 16 players.  Ranked number 9 for Tennis in Australia, her star is on the rise.

 

Luella Greer:  Received the award for Volleyball (Female).  Luella’s 2022 was spread between the State and National Teams including International Competition.  Luella won the coveted Blue and White Jacket award for Beach Volleyball State Teams.  She was selected for the Australian Youth Women’s team as well as being selected for the Australian Volleyball Academy at the AIS.

 

Congratulations to all students awarded “The Sporting Blue” and congratulations to our strength and conditioning team, teachers and  Coaches for the great work they do to help get our student athlete’s  to this level.
