Taekwondo Academy Program

Program overview

The Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA) Taekwondo Program is a specialised high-performance athlete development program designed to provide talented young taekwondo athletes with an elite training environment that supports both sporting excellence and academic success. The program focuses on developing technically skilled, tactically aware, and professionally minded athletes who are prepared to compete at state, national, and international levels.

The primary aim of the MSA Taekwondo Program is to complement the training athletes receive through their clubs while providing additional high-performance opportunities that accelerate development. Working alongside club coaches and external training programs, MSA helps student-athletes build the skills, knowledge, and habits required to become successful elite competitors. This collaborative approach ensures athletes receive a well-rounded development experience while maintaining consistency across all aspects of their training.

A key objective of the program is to prepare athletes for progression through the Australian Taekwondo pathway and ultimately into senior-level competition. Training is designed to bridge the gap between junior and senior competition standards, ensuring student-athletes graduate from the program with the technical ability, tactical understanding, and confidence required to compete successfully at higher levels of the sport.

Many athletes within the program aspire to represent Australia at major international events, including the Oceania Championships, World Cadet Championships, World Junior Championships, and World Senior Championships. The program is structured to provide athletes with the foundation necessary to pursue these ambitious goals while fostering discipline, resilience, and professionalism.

Training sessions focus on developing the technical and tactical skills required for modern taekwondo competition. Athletes work on kicking techniques, movement patterns, defensive skills, counter-attacking strategies, competition awareness, and match management. Coaches utilise contemporary training methods that reflect the demands of international competition and help athletes adapt to the evolving nature of the sport.

The MSA Taekwondo Program also incorporates cutting-edge technology through the use of KP&P and Adidas Electronic Body Protector systems. This technology allows athletes to train using the same electronic scoring systems used at major competitions, helping them understand scoring opportunities, improve tactical decision-making, and gain a competitive advantage.

Student-athletes train in a dedicated Taekwondo facility located on the Maribyrnong Sports Academy campus. The specialised training room features matted flooring and professional training equipment, providing a safe and authentic high-performance environment.

Through elite coaching, modern technology, and a commitment to athlete development, the MSA Taekwondo Program provides aspiring athletes with an exceptional pathway towards national representation, international competition, and long-term success in the sport.
