Aquatics Academy Program

Program Overview

The Maribyrnong Sports Academy Aquatics Program is designed to support talented student-athletes competing across a range of aquatic disciplines. Recognised as one of Victoria's leading aquatics programs, the Academy provides a high-performance environment that enables athletes to pursue sporting excellence while achieving academic success.

The program caters for athletes involved in:

  • Swimming

  • Artistic Swimming

  • Water Polo

  • Diving

  • Open Water Swimming

  • Surfing

  • Surf Life Saving

As a leading Aquatics Program in Melbourne, the Academy focuses on creating a positive team environment while recognising the individual nature of many aquatic sports. Student-athletes are encouraged to support one another, celebrate success, and strive for continuous improvement both in and out of the pool.

The program provides a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment where athletes can balance the demands of training, competition, and education. Through personalised support and athlete-centred development, students are encouraged to pursue their individual goals while building the skills, habits, and resilience required for long-term success. Many athletes aspire to achieve state team selection, national representation, and future opportunities at elite levels of competition.

High Performance Coaching and Athlete Support

Unlike traditional school-based coaching models, coaching support for Aquatics athletes is delivered through their existing private, club, state, or national coaching programs. The Maribyrnong Sports Academy works collaboratively with these coaches to ensure student-athletes receive consistent support throughout their development pathway.

A key strength of the program is access to MSA's specialist athlete services team, which provides an integrated approach to elite athlete development. Student-athletes receive support in areas including:

  • Sport-specific strength and conditioning

  • Performance psychology

  • Sports nutrition

  • Performance analysis

  • Rehabilitation and injury management

  • Athlete wellbeing

These services help athletes maximise performance, support recovery, reduce injury risk, and develop the physical and mental skills required to compete at the highest level.

Competition Opportunities

Aquatics athletes regularly compete at major events throughout the year, including National Championships, State Championships, and regional competitions. These include School Sport Australia events, Victorian sporting organisation championships, Victorian All Schools Swimming Relay Championships, School Sport Victoria State Swimming Championships, the Victorian Water Polo Secondary Schools Cup, and Western Metropolitan Region Championships.

Through a combination of high-performance support, academic excellence, and athlete wellbeing services, the Maribyrnong Sports Academy Aquatics Program provides an outstanding pathway for aspiring aquatic athletes seeking to achieve success in swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, surf sports, and open water competition.
