Athletics

One tenth of a sec was all that separated Celeste Mucci and Olympic Semi Finalist Liz Clay in the Sydney Track Classic 100m Women’s hurdle final on the weekend at Sydney’s Olympic Park.

Celeste ran another outstanding time of 13.02 to finish second to Clay who’s time of 12.92 was the fastest time in the world this year and enough to take the gold.  Celeste still holds the second fastest time of the year with a 12.99.

Meanwhile over in the States, Amelia Mazza Downie ran at the NCAA Division 1 indoor nationals in Birmingham, Alabama running for New Mexico University.   Amelia ran a Personal Best time of 15.37.87 for the 5,000m indoor race finishing in 7th place and only 7 seconds from the winner

 

A-League

Connor Metcalfe scored for Melbourne City in the 42’ minute with his team going onto draw with Western United 2 all. 

A League Women

Polly Doran started in defence and received a yellow card in Melbourne Victory’s 2-1 Elimination final defeat of Adelaide United.  Melbourne Victory now take on Melbourne City in a Preliminary final after City went down to Sydney FC 4-2 in their Semi Final.  The winner to play Sydney in the A-League Women’s final.

 

AFLW

Monique Conti captained Richmond in their loss to Collingwood by 38 points while collecting 22 disposals and 13 contested possessions.  Elle McKenzie finished the season with 14 disposals for the Tigers.

Melbourne had a 1 point victory over Carlton to help celebrate Libby Birch’s 50th AFLW game, meanwhile Georgie Prespakis had 19 disposals and 13 tackles in Geelong’s loss to to the GWS Giants.

 

Cricket

Current year 11 student Mitchell Jamieson scored 115 from 143 in the Dowling Shield on the labour day Monday, but it wasn’t enough to help his team Footscray defeat Ringwood in the Final.  Year 12 student Aidan Brasher took a wicket with the ball as Ringwood went on to make 9/254 off their 50 over…Footscray fell short in their chase all out for 236.

And Fergus O’Neill is playing for the Victorian Bushrangers 2nd XI in their game against Tasmania at Merv Hughes Oval this week
