High-performance baseball training for secondary school athletes

Baseball Academy Program

Overview

The Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA) Baseball Academy is one of Victoria’s leading school-based high-performance baseball programs, providing talented student-athletes with the opportunity to develop their skills while balancing their academic studies. Delivered in partnership with the Baseball Victoria, the program combines expert coaching, athlete development, and pathway opportunities designed to help athletes reach their full potential both on and off the diamond.

Over many years, the MSA Baseball Academy has established a strong reputation for producing athletes who progress through state, national, and international pathways. Graduates of the program have gone on to represent Victoria and Australia, while others have secured opportunities to continue their baseball journey through US college scholarship programs. The academy provides student-athletes with exposure to high-performance training environments and supports them in pursuing their individual sporting aspirations.

Training

The program is built around the development of fundamental and advanced baseball skills, with a strong focus on individual improvement and the application of those skills in game situations. Coaches work closely with each athlete to ensure they are challenged appropriately and continue to develop throughout their time in the academy. Training sessions focus on all key aspects of the game, including offensive and defensive skills, footwork, communication, agility, game awareness, tactical decision-making, game simulation, and overall game structure.

A major emphasis of the Baseball Academy is helping athletes become confident and adaptable players who can perform under pressure. Through progressive skill development and game-based learning, student-athletes gain a deeper understanding of baseball while improving their technical execution and decision-making abilities.

The program currently includes two dedicated morning training sessions each week, complemented by an additional individual development session assigned to every student-athlete once per month. All training is conducted on-site at MSA, ensuring athletes have access to quality facilities and a structured learning environment.

Importantly, the MSA Baseball Academy incorporates the Baseball Victoria Pathway Curriculum into its training model. This alignment ensures student-athletes are developing skills and knowledge consistent with state and national pathway expectations. By combining expert coaching, high-performance training principles, and clear progression opportunities, the MSA Baseball Academy provides an outstanding environment for aspiring baseball players to develop, compete, and succeed at the highest levels of the sport.
