Football Academy Program

Program Overview

The Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA) Football Program is one of Australia's premier school-based football development programs, providing talented young footballers with an opportunity to combine elite sporting development with academic excellence. Recognised as Victoria's first and only Football Federation Australia (FFA) High Performance Football School (HPFS) in 2018, MSA continues to be a leader in football education and athlete development.

The High Performance Football Schools initiative was established to support talented players aged 14 to 18 who have been identified as having the potential to progress through state, national, and international football pathways. The program provides additional high-performance training opportunities that complement the development athletes receive through their clubs, academies, and National Training Centre (NTC) programs. By integrating these experiences, MSA helps student-athletes maximise their football potential while maintaining a strong focus on education.

The MSA Football Program is a selective-entry program designed for ambitious student-athletes who aspire to compete at the highest levels of the game. Students participate in a comprehensive Years 7–12 academic curriculum while undertaking specialised football training and high-performance athlete development. This athlete-friendly approach enables young footballers to pursue their sporting goals without compromising their educational outcomes.

Training

Training sessions are carefully structured to develop the technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects of football performance. Student-athletes work on ball mastery, passing and receiving, positional awareness, decision-making, game intelligence, and match-play scenarios that replicate the demands of elite competition. Coaches focus on developing complete footballers who are capable of performing consistently in high-pressure environments.

A significant strength of the program is its comprehensive High Performance Preparation Program. Student-athletes have access to a range of professional athlete support services, including strength and conditioning, injury prevention and rehabilitation programs, sports science education, sport nutrition guidance, match analysis, sport psychology, and physiotherapy. These services provide athletes with the knowledge and support required to optimise performance, reduce injury risk, and develop lifelong habits that contribute to sporting success.

The MSA Football Program aims to prepare student-athletes for progression into Victorian representative teams, national development programs, professional football environments, and international opportunities. Through expert coaching, cutting-edge athlete support services, and a commitment to holistic development, MSA provides an outstanding environment for aspiring footballers to thrive both on the field and in the classroom.
