School Holiday Sports Results

The two weeks of the Term 2 holidays saw plenty of current and former MSA students do some amazing things in their respective sports.  Here are their results.

Badminton

Year 8 MSA Student Ohmkkar Neelam was crowned U15 National Doubles Champions while also making the Semi-finals in the singles tournament.

Year 8 student Yash Jha made the Semi Finals and won a bronze medal in the U15 Invitational Doubles event at the National

 

Year 9 student Shrey Dhand made the  Quarter Finals of the U19 singles tournament at the Nationals while also being a member of the winning Vic U19 State team at National Champs with our MSA Head Coach Vee Vian Chong as the coach of that team

 

Baseball

Year 9 students Jayden Kim , Andy Land and Lauchlan Schumann were part of the Victorian U16 team to win a silver medal at the U16 National Youth Championships played in Brisbane.  NSW winning the final 12 -6

 

AFL

MSA Alumni Massimo D’Ambrosio was nominated as the AFL’s NAB Rising Star for R16.  Massimo had 23 disposals and 6 marks in a solid defensive performance for the Bombers in their win against the Swans. It was only his 3rd game in the AFL after being picked up by Essendon in the Mid-Season Draft.

 

Congratulations to Charlotte Baskaran who was drafted to Hawthorn with pick 9 in the 2022 AFLW draft.

 

Georgia Nanscawen our MSA Hockey coach was a co-captain of the Essendon VFLW team which won the premiership defeating the Southern Saints.  The recently drafted AFLW pick sadly injured her knee late in the game which will see her miss a large chunk of the next 12 months

 

Athletics

MSA Alumni Celeste Mucci has been selected to compete in her second Commonwealth Games in the 100m hurdles and 4 x 100m relay for the Games in Birmingham starting on the 28th of July.  Celeste first competed in the Heptathlon at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast

 

Former MSA Student Bianca Puglisi was announced as a member of the Victorian team to compete at the Australian Half Marathon Championships.

 

Netball

At the Waverley International Schools tournament, MSA had 3 teams representing our school.

 

In the junior comp MSA 1 defeated MSA 2 in the semi’s before going on to win the Silver medal, meanwhile MSA 2 went on to win the bronze.

 

In the Senior comp our MSA team also went on to win silver against teams from around Australia and parts of Asia and New Zealand.

 

Cycling

Lucas Plapp has been named in the Australian track team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

 

Football (Soccer)

Former student Rhys Bosinovski and current student Jake Najdovski  have recently signed professional contracts with current A-League champions Western United.

 

Taekwondo

MSA had students competing in the Korean open with our coach Ryan Carnelli also a part of the team.  Congratulations to Jamie Cefai and Mason Harrison who won Gold in their respective competitions.  While Xavier Nikolovski won a Bronze medal.  Jackson Lobb also competed well in the tournament.

 

Volleyball

Lorenzo Pope is playing for Australia in the Volleyball Nations League.  Lorenzo plays as a Pass hitter for the team

 

Joey Yigit a past student of our Academy has just accepted a position as a coach at the South Australian Sports Institute in their High Performance Beach Volleyball Program.

 

Jaspreet Singh is a part of the Australian youth team touring New Zealand while LuLu Greer was a part of the U18 Australian indoor team at the Asian Championships.

 

Basketball

Year 9 Student Kofi Aden was part of the Gold medal Vic Metro team at Under 16 National Championships played in Perth.  Vic Metro defeated the Queensland South team 85 to 70 in the final.

Lacrosse

Former MSA Students Bonnie Yu, Sarah Mollison and Rebecca Lane played for Australia in the Women’s World Championships played in the USA.  Australia lost the Bronze medal match to England 8-7 after 3 over times.

 

Meanwhile MSA Alumni Lucas Parsons is playing with the Australian Men’s Lacrosse team at the World Games in Birmingham, Alabama.

 

And finally as a side note Akos Kelly a student in year 7 here at MSA will have both his parents involved in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.  His Mum Maria Pekli is a team manager of the Judo team while his dad Daniel Kelly is a coach of the Judo team…
