SELECTION PROCESS

Selection is based not only on existing performance, but potential for development in high-performance sport as well as the suitability for the balance between sport and academic performance, effort and behaviour.

Entry into Year 9 is highly competitive and, in general, most successful applicants are participating at a junior state or national level (or equivalent).

Selection to attend in-person trials is based on a review of sport details and achievements provided in online application by the MSA Selection Committee. Applications are compared to applications received across all sports and the available number of places.

If athletes are invited to progress to the next stage, selection is also based on:

·       Physical Testing (Including general power, speed (running) and anthropometric testing)

·       Sport Specific Training and Drills

·       Academic Review (academic criteria below)

ACADEMIC CRITERIA

A review of school reports and NAPLAN is undertaken to determine if applicants meet the below criteria. This criterion is used as a guideline and exceptional circumstances will be considered.

·       Achieving a B grade academic average with academic progress indicators at the upper end for their year level.

·       Academic effort high (no comments or indicators showing poor or unsatisfactory academic effort)

·       Behavioural indicators at very good or above.

·       High school attendance levels (80%+)

The MSA Selection Committee may also contact your child’s current school for more information if required.
