2018 Don Deeble Awards

The 2018 Don Deeble Rising Star Awards have been held at a Gala Ceremony at the Yarraville Club hosted by the Sunshine and Western Region Sports Club.

The Don Deeble Rising Star award is presented to young sportspersons in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne who have performed at a State, National or International level.

Once again Maribyrnong Sports Academy students, past and present, featured on the evening with Dylan Brasher (Cricket), Louise Mendes ( Athletics), Lucas Plapp ( Cycling) and Celeste Mucci ( Athletics) claiming four of the monthly awards for 2018.

Congratulations to Commonwealth Games Heptathlete Celeste Mucci who was named the Don Deeble Rising Star for 2018, her efforts for the year were rewarded with the first prize of $5000. Two runners up prizes were also awarded with Lucas Plapp receiving a $2,500 cheque complements of the Yarraville Club Cricket Club a major sponsor of the SWRSC.

Maribyrnong Sports Academy and the Sunshine and Western Region Sports Club also share a valuable partnership which saw the inaugural SWRSC/MSA Citizenship award presented to Year 10 student Massimo D’Ambrosio. Massimo was recognised for his commitment to the Academy values of Respect, Honesty, Community, Leadership and Determination.
