MSA Appoints New AFL Coach

Maribyrnong Sports Academy welcomes a new coach into their ranks for the remainder of the 2020 school year and beyond.  Robbie Chancellor has been selected from a highly credentialed group of applicants, to replace Ryan O’Keefe as the MSA Head Coach of our Australian Rules Football program, with Ryan leaving us, having accepted a position with AFL New South Wales.

MSA’s partnership with AFL Victoria continues with Robbie also being appointed the Talent Pathway Coach for the U19’s Boys and Girls at the Western Jets. NAB League Manager – Metro, Paul Hamilton congratulated Chancellor on his new role.

“We are extremely excited to have Robbie as part of our team. Robbie brings 12 years of AFL club experience in a variety of roles. Robbie’s comes to us most recently from St Kilda Football club where he held an Assistant and Development Coaching role for 2019 and 2020 seasons. Prior to this, Robbie held an analysis Manager / opposition and Strategy Coach position at the Saints and also an opposition analyst role with Melbourne Football Club and Hawthorn Football Club.  Robbie brings a fresh outlook, professionalism and enthusiasm to work with young athletes.”

Hamilton pointing out the importance of the AFL’s partnership with Maribyrnong Sports Academy, “ As you may be aware, we have a strong relationship with the Maribyrnong College. Part of Robbie’s role will be to also lead the football program at the Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA). I know that this is another role that he is looking forward to as we continue our mutually beneficial partnership with the school”.

MSA Sports Director Mark McAllion thanked Ryan O’Keefe for the work he achieved at the Sports Academy.  “ To have someone of the calibre of Ryan O’Keefe, a two time premiership player and Norm Smith Medallist, work at your school with our Academy students was amazing. Under Ryan’s tenure at the college we had 3 male and 4 female students selected from the AFL’s 2019 and 2020 drafts, including the number 1 and 2 draft picks in this year’s AFLW draft and the number 5 pick last year.  We thank Ryan for the work he did with our students and staff and look forward to Welcoming Robbie to the school next Monday and welcome the enthusiasm and knowledge he will bring to the Program”
