It has been a busy few weeks for our Alumni who continue to make waves in the World of sport. Here are some of their achievements:
Cricket
Congratulations to Fergus O’Neil who made his Debut for Victoria in shield cricket in the season opening game against South Australia at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide. Fergus took 4 wickets on Debut in a game that Victoria drew.
Soccer
Connor Metcalfe come on in the 86th minute to help FC St Pauli to a 3-nil win over Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga 2
AFL
Congratulations to MSA Alumni Peter Wright on winning the Crichton medal for the 2022 Best and Fairest at Essendon. Also congratulations go to Touk Miller for winning the Best and Fairest at the Gold Coast Suns and finishing 3rd in the Brownlow Medal
AFLW – Round 8
The rampaging Tigers have come from behind to beat Carlton on the weekend. Monique Conti was strong again with 30 possessions and Elle McKenzie had 18 touches to help Richmond achieve 6 wins in a row.
North Melbourne pumped Port Adelaide by 25 points. Amy Smith had 11 possessions and 4 tackles for the victors against a Power team including Erin Phillips.
Geelong defeated the West Coast Eagles by 9 points with the tackling machine Georgie Prespakis racking up 12 tackles and 21 possessions for the Cats.
Melbourne was too strong for the hapless Suns with Libby Birch accumulating 16 possessions and 3 marks in defence for the Dees.
The Western Bulldogs were 15-point winners over the Saints at Mars Stadium in Ballarat. Jess Fitzgerald had 14 touches and 3 marks while Saints midfielder Georgia Patrikios had 11 possessions and 4 tackles
Hawthorn lost by 1 point to the GWS Giants with Charlotte Baskaran having 6 tackles and 11 disposals as she gets herself ready for her year 12 exams.
And the Sydney Swans went down by 4 points to the Bombers with Alicia Newman having 8 possessions for Sydney.
NBL
Zac Triplett had 4 minutes on the boards for Melbourne United on the weekend with United going down by 10 points to the Tasmanian Jack Jumpers.
Badminton
In the Yonex Bendigo International, Gronya Somerville and her doubles partner Wendy Chen lost in the quarter finals, while in the Mixed Doubles with partner Ken Choo, she was knocked out in the round of 32. This week Gronya heads across the ditch to New Zealand for the North Harbour international.
Meanwhile also in Bendigo, Jacob Schuller lost in the round of 32 in both the Men’s doubles and Men’s Singles.
