18 current and 6 former Maribyrnong Sports Academy Athlete’s made the trek up to Sydney for the Australian Track and Field National Championships for 2022, and once again our current and past students have had some amazing results at the meet held at Sydney’s Olympic Park.
Here is a summary of their performances:
Gold Medals
Year 8 Student Athlete Zulq Haider won 4 Gold medals during the Nationals, claiming the 100m in 11.71, 200m in 23.76, 400m in 53.76 and was also part of the 4 x 100m winning team. Congratulations Zulq on this amazing medal haul. Lilly Bella Hilli won gold in the 200m Hurdles in a personal best time of 28.99 while Sukhnoor Rangi also set a personal best in the U16 Pole Vault with a height of 3.40 meters.
Silver Medals
7 silver medals were awarded to MSA Students including Mackenzie Leith in the Discuss throwing 49.54m. Arden Stevens claimed silver in the Triple Jump with a PB of 13.73. Brandon Cvetanovski was second in his Triple Jump event with a jump of 11.77m while Kushnoor Rangi jumped a Personal Best in the U16 Pole Vault taking the silver with a 3.20m jump. On the track Josh Djatschenko ran a 23.15pb in the 200m for 2nd while Max Busuttil was 2nd in the 100m and 4 x 100m relay.
Bronze Medals
Josh Djatchenko claimed a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay while Devesh Sri Deenathayalan was also 3rd in the Triple Jump with a 14.46m jump
Plenty of other MSA Student Athletes finished in the top 8 performances in Australia, including:
· Andreas Weickhardt, 5th in the 100m Hurdles with a PB of 14.39
· Brandon Cvetanovski was 8th in the Long Jump with a 4.96m jump and 8th in the Javelin with a throw of 32.74
· Josh Djatschenko was 4th in the 100m running a time of 11.63
· Emily Mifsud ran a PB of 10.21.34 to finish 8th in the 3000m
· Sukhnoor Rangi finished 4th in the U18 Pole Vault with a jump of 3.30m and 6th in the Javelin with a throw of 36.18m.
· Kushnoor Rangi was 5th in th U16 Pole Vault jumping 3.15m
· Max Busuttil was 6th in the 200m running 22.79
MSA Alumni
There were also some great results for our alumni including a silver to Celeste Mucci in the 100m hurdles and a world u20 qualifier for Abigail Thomas
Summary of Alumni results
Jessie Andrew made the semi final of the 100m and finished 7th in the final of the 200m
Celeste Mucci ran a Personal best time in the final of the 100m Hurdles finishing with a time of 12.96. This time is the 6th fastest Australian time in history.
Cameron Searle unfortunately withdrew from the 400m semi finals due to injury.
Aliyah Canepa finished 6th in the hammer throw and 17th in the
Abigail Thomas ran a World U20 Qualifier time to finish 3rd in the 3000m steeple While Janae Mackrell competed in the 1500m heats
