Athletics
Our MSA Athletics Alumni had some fantastic results at the 100th staging of the Australian Open (National Championships).
Congratulations to Jessie Andrew who claimed gold and is now the 400m National Champion. Her time of 52.62 was a personal best.
Amelia Mazza Downie finished 8th in the 5,000m in a time of 16 minutes and 4 seconds
Celeste Mucci ran another sub 13 second run, her 5th for the year, to finish with the silver medal in the 100m hurdles in a time of 12.92. That time was just .08 outside her best of the season so far.
Aliyah Canepa finished 6th in the Hammer Throw with a personal best throw of 54.54m.
Cameron Searle finished 3rd in the Men’s 400m in a time of 46.27. That time is also his best time of the season.
Premier Cricket Final:
In Cricket Victoria’s Premier Cricket final, Melbourne played Carlton, with Kieran Elliott and Fergus O’Neill playing for the victorious Melbourne CC. Kierann took an amazing 17 wickets in the finals series with 7 of those in the final. And Fergus took 4 wickets in the final. Melbourne winning the last match of the season on the first innings result.
Women’s Football
Naomi Chinnama played for Melbourne City in their 3 all draw against Canberra United in the A-League W.
Mindy Barbieri played for Adelaide City in their 3-1 loss to Wellington.
Good luck to Naomi Chinnama in Melbourne Cities A-League W finals campaign.
In the Women’s EPL Polly Doran started in Chrystal Palace’s 2-1 win over Sunderland.
Men’s Football
Western United had a 3 all draw with Sydney FC in the A-League. Seb Pasquale coming on for United in the 76th minute.
In the Bundesliga 2, St Pauli FC has a 1-0 victory over Jahn Regensburg. MSA Alumni Connor Metcalfe started for the victors.
AFL
Cameron Rayner had a fairly quiet night by his standards in Brisbane’s loss to the Bulldogs on Thursday night by 14 points. Cam finished with 16 disposals and 6 marks for the night.
Both Paul Curtis and Kayne Turner kicked 1 goal 1 behind and had 9 disposals in Nth Melbourne’s 19 point loss to Hawthorn in Launceston.
Massimo D’Ambrosio had 27 possessions, 8 marks and 2 tackles for the Bombers who lost their MCG clash to St Kilda by 3 goals.
Zak Butters kicked a goal and had 15 disposals in Port Adelaide’s loss to Adelaide at Adelaide Oval by 31 points.
Touk Miller’s 20 possessions, 4 marks and 6 tackles have helped the Suns grab a will earned win over the reigning Premiers Geelong by 19 points.

Weightlifting
Congratulations to Teagan Newman on her 2nd placing in the Pacific Elite International Weightlifting tournament in Hawthorn on the weekend in the F76 group.
Badminton
The Polish Open…Gronya Somerville and her partner Kaitlyn EA lost in the round of 16 in the women’s doubles. In the mixed double Gronya and Kenneth Choo lost in the round of 16 after defeating the number 1 ranked team in the round of 32
Football
Polly Doran’s Crystal Palace had a 1 -0 win over Blackburn with Polly picking up a yellow card in the 90th minute.
Connor Metcalfe’s St Pauli FC played Hanover 96 in a friendly match and won 2-0
In the A-League W, Naomi Chinnama played for Melbourne City in their 4-3 loss to Perth Glory.
Mindy Barbieri came on In the 77th minute in Adelaide United’s 3-0 loss to Sydney FC

Celeste Mucci has had another sub 13 sec run and finished 2nd in the 100 hurdles at the Brisbane Track Classic, once again behind Michelle Jennneke. Meanwhile Jessie Andrew finished 3rd in the 400m event in a time of 53.46.
Basketball
Monique Conti’s Southside Flyers went down to Townville in the 3 game final series against Townsville. Townsville winning the first two games, with Monique now focusing her attention to the AFLW where she plays for the Richmond Tigers.
AFL
Marby’s own Cameron Rayner had 16 disposals and 4 clearances in Brisbane’s win over the Melbourne Demons in Brisbane.
Zak Butters had 18 disposals in Port Adelaide loss to the Pies at the MCG
Rhylee West had a quiet day by his standard with 4 disposals in the Bulldogs loss to St Kilda
North Melbourne have continued their great start to the season defeating Fremantle. MSA Alumni Paul Curtis and Kayne Turner playing their roles. Kayne had 12 possessions 3 tackles while Paul Curtis had 8 possessions and was subbed out due to illness. Luke Ryan had 30 possessions and 10 marks for the Dockers.
Massimo D’Ambrosio had 18 disposals and 5 marks in Essendon’s 28 point win over the Gold Coast Suns. Last year’s Gold Coast best and fairest winner Touk Miller chipped in with 31 disposals 5 tackles and 5 clearances.
Cricket
Fergus O’Neill took 1/70 from 26 overs and 0/17 in the second innings in his first Sheffield Shield final. Unfortunately for Fergus though, the Bushrangers went down by 9 wickets to WA.

Seb Pasquali came into game in the 61st minute in Western United’s 1-0 loss to Brisbane Roar.
Connor Metcalfe started in St Pauli FC’s 5-0 win SV Sandhausen in the Bundesliga 2.

Volleyball
Lorenzo Pope’s Modena Volleyball won the first game of their best of 3 Quarter Final 3-2 against Gas Sales Piacenza in the Italian SupaLega.
AFL
Jack Bytel and Luke Ryan faced off in the St Kilda Fremantle match played at Marvel Stadium. The Saints getting the win with Jack Bytel kicking a goal and having 15 disposals for the victors. Luke Ryan had an amazing day with 37 disposals and 13 marks in the 15 point loss.
Paul Curtis scored 2 goals in North Melbourne’s 5 point win over the West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium.
Zak Butters had 24 Disposals and took 8 marks in Port Adelaide’s 54 point victory over Cam Rayner’s Brisbane Lions. Rayner having 14 disposals and 3 tackles.
Meanwhile Gold Coast Captain and MSA Alumni Touk Miller had 29 disposals and 8 tackles in his teams 49 point loss to the Sydney Swans.
Cycling
Luke Plapp is riding in the Tour of Catalunya this week with his teammates for his professional team Ineos Grenadiers
Cricket
Fergus O’Neill took 3/52 against WA in the final home and away game of the Sheffield Shield season bolstering his chances to play in the Shield Final this week. Victoria takes on West Australia with both O’Neill and MSA Cricket coach Travis Dean expected to make the team. We wish them good luck.
Lacrosse
MSA Year 12 student Toby Townsend made the all-star team at the Box Lacrosse Junior Commonwealth tournament this past weekend. The games were hosted by Altona Lacrosse Club and consisted of teams from Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide.
After a round robin format, an all-star team was selected to represent Australia against a very competitive Canadian team in the showcase final. Toby scored 2 goals and assisted another in the final with Australian losing out to Canada.
