Equestrian
Congratulations to Marly Wright who has taken out the Overall Champion trophy representing Maribyrnong Sports Academy at the Geelong Grammar Show Jumping Competition at Werribee with her horse Maeve Keeva Castiel.
Para Tennis
Current Year 8 student Jin Woodman has been competing at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Portugal. Jin and his doubles partner Benjamin Wenzal defeated the Brazilian pairing to help Australia wins its first round match 3-0 over Brazil. Australia then played the United States with Jin and his doubles partner Yassin Hill losing in straight sets. The USA team beat Australia 3-0. Australia finished second in their group round robin then went on to finish 4th in the tournament losing to Great Britain 3-0 in the semi’s, Jin losing his singles match in straight sets 6-1,6-2. The Aussies then lost to the Netherlands in the play off for 3rd and 4th. A great effort by Jin and his teammates.
Badminton
Gronya Somerville is currently representing Australia in the Sudirman Cup being played in Suzhou, China. Australia lost their first match of the tournament to Malaysia 5-0. Gronya played in both Mixed and Women’s doubles.
Australian Rules Football
Congratulations to Piper Dixon, Leivi Lane, Elle Price and Kiara Boyd who have all been selected in the SSV 15 and Under Girls Australian rules football team. The National Championships will be played later in the year in Ballarat. Kiara Boyd has also been selected in the SSV 15 and under Netball team to play in the Nationals in W.A.
International Football
Connor Metcalfe came on in the 77th minute in St Pauli FC’s nil all draw against Dusseldorf in the German Bundesliga 2.
AFL
Gold Coast Suns recorded a solid win against the West Coast Eagles. Rory Atkins had 18 disposals and 8 marks for the Suns.
Fremantle defeated the Sydney Swans by 17 points with Luke Ryan having 19 disposals and 10 marks for the Dockers.
Port Adelaide beat the Kangaroos by 70 points, Zak Butters having 32 possessions for the Power while Paul Curtis had 17 possessions and kicked 1 goal for North Melbourne.
Brisbane defeated the Bombers by 42 points with Cam Rayner amassing 20 possessions, 5 clearances and a goal for the Lions while Massimo D’Ambrosio was a late call up into the team having 9 disposals then was subbed off in the 7th min of the final quarter.
Adelaide defeated the Saints by 52 points with Jack Bytel getting 7 disposals and 3 tackles after coming on as the sub to replace the concussed Tim Membrey in the 3rd quarter.
Cycling
Luke Plapp was involved in a large crash on the first stage of the Tour de Hongrie which claimed him and Ineos Grenadiers teammate Egan Bernal with only one kilometre to go. Luke suffered a minor concussion and was unable to continue the race withdrawing at the end of the first day.
Cricket
Congratulations to MSA Cricket Alumni Tom Rogers, Fergus O’Neill and current MSA coach Travis Dean who have all received full contracts with Cricket Victoria for the upcoming 23/24 season. We also congratulate Dylan Brasher on receiving a Rookie Contract.
Athletics
Celeste Mucci is in Yokohama, Japan this week to compete in the 100m Hurdles at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix on Sunday.

It’s been another strong week for our Alumni both at home and abroad with medal winning efforts in Athletics and Para Table Tennis. Here is how our past students went over the past week.
Athletics
Cameron Searle has won double Gold at the Oceania Relay Championships on the Gold Coast. The men’s 4 x 400m relay team won in a time of 3.05.58, Cameron was also a part of the winning 4 x 400m mixed Relay team. Australia winning the final in a time of 3.20.95.
Jessie Andrews won the 400m event at the 10th Kinami Michitaka Memorial Athletics Meet, Yanmar Stadium, Nagai, Osaka in a personal best time of 52.58.
Para Table Tennis
Nathan Pellissier competed in the Montenegro Para Open. He made the Quarter finals in the Singles tournament losing to the eventual winner from China.
Before that Nathan played in the Greek Para Open where he won Silver in the Doubles and Gold in the mixed. He also made the Quarter Finals in the Singles.
Gridiron
Adam Korsak has been selected to play in the Canadian Football League as he awaits a spot to open up on an NFL list. The Saskatchewan Roughriders selected Adam with their first pick in the CFL. He has been invited by the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers to their respective NFL Rookie mini camps..
A-League and the World game
Congratulations to Matt Bozinovski who won the Rick Smith Young Player of the Year award at the Melbourne Victory season awards night.
Connor Metcalfe came on in the 81st minute for FC St Pauli in their 3-0 win over top team Darmstadt. FC St Pauli now sit 4th on the Bundesliga 2 table.
Cycling
Luke Plapp is set to ride in the Tour of Hongrie for his professional team Ineos Grenadiers this week. It will be Lucas’ first race since early April, where he failed to finish in the Itzulia Basque Country.
AFL
Brisbane v Carlton
Brisbane beat the Blues by 26 points with Cam Rayner having 6 kicks, 3 handballs and 5 tackles in his teams win. Josh Honey had 5 kicks, 3 handballs and 3 tackles for the Blues.
Gold Coast v Melbourne.
Melbourne defeated the Suns by 5 points in a nail bitter. Rory Atkins had 22 disposals and chalked up 637m gained for the Suns.
Fremantle v Hawthorn.
Freo beat the Hawks by 69 points and our man Luke Ryan had 27 disposals and 9 marks with 476m gained for the Dockers.
Port Adelaide v Essendon
An inaccurate Port Adelaide won by 5 points. Zak Butters had 28 possessions, 6 tackles and 615m gained in their win.
Nth Melbourne v St Kilda
Jack Bytel was the Sub for the Saints and came on at ¾ time to replace Jade Gresham. Jack had 4 disposals and kicked a point. Paul Curtis had 8 disposals for the Kangaroos.

Football (Soccer)
Seb Pasquali started for Western United in their 2-1 A-League victory over Perth Glory in Perth
Connor Metcalfe came on in the 66th minute and received a yellow card in the 74th in FC St Pauli’s 2-1 win over Arminia.
Polly Doran started for Crystal Palace in their 1 all draw against local derby rivals Charlton.
Volleyball
The Italian Volleyball season has finished for Lorenzo Pope and his Modena team. They defeated Verona 3 sets to 1 in the playoff for 8th and 9th position. The win means Modena finishes in 8th for the season.
Badminton
Last year’s National Champion Jacob Schueler made it through to the quarter finals this year before being knocked out.
Shray Dhand won his first round match before losing to the eventual winner. Thomas Ng and Demetri Han both also made it through to the second round of the National Championships.
MSA Alumni Wilson Li and his partner were defeated by Jacob Schueler and his partner in the Mens Doubles, second round. Schueler then losing in the third round. While Shray Dhand and his partner were knocked out in the quarter finals.
Gronya Somerville lost the semi final in the Women’s doubles to her former partner, while she also lost to her in the final of the Mixed doubles with her new Partner Kenneth Choo.
Cricket
Congratulations to Dylan Brasher, Joe Medew-Ewen and Tom Rogers who made the Kookaburra Men’s Premier Team of the Season for Cricket Victoria’s Premier Cricket season 22/23. While former MSA women’s coach Makinley Blows won the Women’s Top Premier award the Una Paisley Medal.
Makinley played in 10 One Day matches across the season and finished with 433 runs @ 48.11 with a top score of 112, 10 wickets @ 16.70 (best bowling of 4/34) and five catches. Her performances with the bat saw her finish as the second leading run-scorer in the home and away season, whilst her leadership guided the Bombers to the minor Premiership.
AFL
St Kilda v Port Adelaide
Zak Butters had 19 kicks and 18 handballs in Ports 7 point win over the Saints.
Brisbane v Fremantle
Cam Rayner had 12 disposals and kicked a goal in Brisbane’s 48 point victory over Luke Ryan’s Fremantle. Luke had 32 possessions and 5 marks for the Dockers
Melbourne v Nth Melbourne
Paul Curtis had a quiet day with 5 possessions while Kayne Turner was the same with 5 also in the Roo’s loss to the Demons by 90 points.
West Coast v Carlton.
Josh Honey had 8 possessions in Carlton’s demolition of the Eagles by 108 points.
Essendon v Geelong
Massimo D’Ambrosio had 13 touches and 2 tackles in Essendon’s loss to the Cats by 28 points.
